Hi fellow alumni friends.
Here are 2 pics of Dr. Bernard Tappin at Holy Cross College Arima Alumni meeting held in the month of September in Arima.
The pic together with him is discussion about Mt St Benedict Abbey School alumni as we are both past students of our beloved Abbey School.
Blessings to you and the fraternity and your families....

Dear Glen,
Yes, there is much to do before more of our associates leave us, i.e. ALUMNI.
I have been thinking to travel this year to TT, but I know that this would put pressure in the finances of the Association, so maybe we can work up something so that at least the lodging could be obtained free of cost.
I say this because under the circumstance we Venezuelans cannot get USD necessary to cover this, under the law.
But we can purchase the airline ticket, "for now" in local currency.
There needs to be a way to regularize the reunions in TT, specially taking into account that lots of ALUMNI have families there.
This must be managed from outside TT as I do not see any action inside and as you say there is a necessity of keep pushing.
Also since there is a need to have a salaried member of the Association to cover at least 4 hours work, there are still quite a few ALUMNI left out of the list.
I would vote for Christopher Knowles, who is retired and some TT dollars would not be rejected to cover his free work up to now, to round out his month.
The rest of the Association members are working so it should be not a big deal.
What about 3000 TT dollars/month?? Between 100 members = 30 per month?? Just guessing, that would be 5 USD aprox. or 72 USD per year per collaborating member.
With one look at the TT phone book I managed to find at least 20 ALUMNI that are not on the email list, and for who there is no information in the listing.
So here are ideas for you to work on.
I would like you to send me the answer thru Kertesz12@yahoo,com, the address used in Association business.
Maybe we could get the bylaws of one of the large associations as the lions etc. and work something while time passes.
God bless
ladislao

Thank you Ladislao,
Always so good to read these articles.
The one on Peter Gorinsky, what a story, I would like to hear more from this brother, the adventures of his life.
The ending photo, just beautiful.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ladislao,
Please, send me a note whenever, you think of it, what’s on your mind.
I need some directions, in general, what would you like to see, just picking your brains, I need to communicate, with you, we are at a cross roads.
My actions have been random, many times on the spur of the moment, hopefully most were good.
Nigel and yourself are over worked, and should be compensated, for office supplies, and general maintenance, up keep of the Circular and Records keeping.
We are growing every month, these services are essential, in order for us to function and to stay as a group, and will not be taken for granted.
Full support must be given here.
We will address this in the New Year.
It is working great and we do not want to lose it.
Ladislao, if there is anything I can do to assist you, equipment you need, supplies, back up stuff, tell me, I will see what I can do.
Thinking of you mi hermano, the humble one.
Best regards
Glen McKoy.

Ladis,
Thanks for reply; I deal with Carol in Colombia, but mostly Joanne Linterman in Toronto.
I am in Toronto now, as my wife's Mother just passed away.
I e-mailed Joanne and copied you as Gordon has passed on.
You continue to do such marvellous works.
Keep trucking! You spirit, friendship, and persistence has really stirred up the MSB Clan, and the "Ripple Effect" is tremendously successful in really re-uniting great blocks of all years and ages, and bonding camaraderie.
Yet we only have a given time to serve the Good Lord, and we never know when He will call us, so many of "my time" oldies are fading (hopefully not in oblivion).
Do continue to fill your days and time with love, caring and friendship.
Hopefully, when the Great One returns He will have a big bunch of those who spiritually and emotionally touched each other as we all glided through those "PAX" gates.
Peace be with us all, and especially the 'Motivators" like yourself, and those others who are ardently serving the cause, and getting the effect.
Friendship is a creation, not just a gift.
It gives much, and returns plentiful. In giving we do receive.
As ever, with mucho gusto,
Arturo

Dear Laszlo,
My answer to Circular Nº 358 is like a scream of "BINGO", because with that circular, there is a picture of two Mount Boys:
One is Robert Bodington and the other guy "Unknown" will be known in the future as in the past as: Timothy Mew (I am not sure of the spelling) both were with us in class l958.
Timothy was from B.G. (Today Guyana) just like our other partner Attorney Marcel Gomes.
As I always say thanks for being there for the Mount Boys Association.
Once more Congratulations

Dear Kazim,
Thank you for your kind note.
Please understand, I am not in charge of any activities whatever, of the MSB Old Boys Association and I have no authority at all in this matter,
Instead, I shall refer you to a few others who have far more knowledge than I, concerning these matters.
If any one of these folks (above) wish to contact you Re. your proposal, that I entirely their own business. I am not involved.
As you rightly point out, however, there is already in existence, a website for the MSB Old Boys, and I cannot believe that we should spend any money in financing a new one.
With every good wish.

Hi Nigel,
I googled something to research and I came upon The Abbey School, Mt. St. Benedict circulars.
A lot of memories flooded back as I am sure everyone experiences.
I am very much interested in the group and any activities I can support or assist in any possible.
I am a 'certified geek'. I build websites and do multimedia productions.
I built a website for my college (Holy Cross College before I came to MSB for 2 years).
The college is Holy Cross College of Arima.
I am at present in New York and also live in Phoenix, Arizona.
I am contemplating going home with the loss of a dear friend today for his funeral.
The Holy Cross College website is www.hccaab.org
I am also using Facebook to bring together the younger past students of Holy Cross and it is overwhelming with the enthusiasm as well as the interest shown.
We have to embrace the new technology to serve the goals and the good we intend.
I will be very happy to do a website, whatever for this group of ongoing students of MSB.
Anything that assist in our togetherness and love.
This is truly wonderful for all of you who have done so much for this group.
My life's work is shown in my personal website www.totalwellbeingcenter.org
I have other websites for myself as well as clients.
So take a look and I am extremely happy to support our old boys as I am already doing for Holy Cross College.
Blessings to you....

PS. I realized the Mount has its own website already. This website I will love to do for our group is for the old boys of The Abbey Mt. St Benedict. And when is this gig in Florida?

              ART'S  STORY or (His Story)
Born Feb 1932. Attended Mount 1944-1949.
One of Fr. Ildefone's first five (King Scouts).
Enjoyed a marvellous, exciting and challenging 'batchelorhood until 1964, when I married Valerie, and it got so much better, six children, and now 10 grans.
Left Trinidad in 1978 for lots of significant reasons, but mostly because Val's Mum was in Toronto; her brother Mike was terminally ill; and we decided grasp the opportunity and school our kids up here; all worthwhile and fulfilling decisions.
A Trini 'buddy' (the great value of networking) got me a job (marketing liquid handling equipment and materials) in Ontario.
Two Years later, I was transferred to the East Coast to handle the four Atlantic Provinces, as Branch Manager; and to date are still here.
I had made a lot of "Old Boy" contacts before I left, and really got cracking with my News Letter ( I had 'de ja vous) being surrounded by 98% Salt water (just like "Home"). I then inveighed (really 'begged') some close buddies to contribute to the printing and postage (no NET or E-mail in those days).
In my travels I came across a Motel called 'Oasis'.
Yep 'The Source of the flow', very appropriate, so I started "Old Abbey School Interested Students". It flowed for many years.
To give you a sample, I found a copy #8 of 1983 to examine the buffoonery, etc. that it was.
The whole box of them was posted to someone (to whom I haven’t got a clue .... memory loss as we lose age).
My vision and mission now is to endeavour to live the Scout Law in life's simple (yet challenging, complex) journey of rapid changing ethics and values.
There is good and evil always before us; hence God's great gift of 'free will' to elevate us above the animals.
I often wonder if the animals have a less complicated journey not having to be entangled with choices.
Viva con Dios.

Don,
Thanks a million, we older fellows get excited over the slightest things; it's what keeps us 'trucking'.
Just back from B'dos where we spent 3 weeks, with son Ed, wife, 2 kids and in-laws; so, rented a mini-bus (it seats *) and booked in at Bath for two fabulous, sunny, fun & extended family and friends, popping in, or we adventuring out.
Then we return and soak in the Winter Olympics (no Caribbeans...wonder why?) and Canada ended up with the Gold in Ice Hockey, plus the highest in Gold Medals ever 14; now I feel more Can-Trin than Trin-Can, as we are often referred to as.
All else great and we had a very mild January (today +8 deg Cent.......normally 5 - 10 deg Mine-ass; in other words "Frozen Backside!)"
All else cookin' sweet, and my health is improving monthly; Graduated from the Heart Clinic, and on reduced medication, and keeping fit, with some vim & vigour.
All the very best, and thanks for straightening me out (not that I am crooked).
I now use the above e-mail for mounties.
Scroongie (my Mount stigmata)

Dear Ladislao,
Thank you very much for sending this to me.
I apologize for not being in touch with you or Deacon Lionel over the past few months.
I have been very, very ill and I have been living in a homeless camp since July.
I was in a car accident in May in which I was the passenger.
It is such a long story.
I have not forgotten about the Deacon and my manuscript which is in my storage room at U-Haul with the rest of my belongings.
I have discovered a way to publish the book through a historian I met at the Panama Canal Museum in Seminole, FL.
I need photographs to do this - scanned or emailed photos.
However, as of now, I also need a book the abbey was to have sent me last year to my post office box which I did not receive.
It was written by a priest or monk who lived at the abbey.
I think he was from Ireland.
Do you know how I can get a copy of this publication? I can pay for it.
I need it to help with the research.
I have been working as much as I can when I am not sick.
I worked seasonal part-time for United Parcel Service (UPS) as a Christmas employee over the holidays and also for a small store in the mall.
But that will be over with this week and I will not have anymore employment until April, when I go back to work for the local baseball team, UNLESS the job counsellor I have been working with since March of last year thru Vocational Rehabilitation can assist in securing a full-time job.
I know the economy is still very bad but I can not understand why she can not be of my assistance with my qualifications.
The again, I have also been sick a lot too.  I even went to the hospital for a week.
I have extremely limited access to a computer, my phone was stolen and I have lost my address book.
I continue to be a parishioner at Most Holy Name in Gulfport, FL but it so hard for me to get there as my car is not working and I have to take three buses.
The bus system is very, very poorly ran here, esp. on Sundays.
So I have been going back to St. Mary's as it is just plain easier.
I hope the Good Lord has been treating you well and please do email me again.
Give the Deacon my regards and please tell him I have not forgotten about the project, I just have not been able to do much of anything but take it day by day and I can not write or research under those conditions.
Heidi Sumner (Diocese) is very upset with me for not finishing and refusing to hand over what I have compiled and, you know what?
I can not help that but only pray she will get over being angry.
I do not need anyone upset with me right now as I am trying hard to get better and it is taking everything out of me to do so.
Please remember me in you prayers as I do you and all of the monk boys and the Deacon.
I hope you had a joyous Advent Season.
Merry Fifth Day of  Christmas!  Happy New Year!God bless,

Please could you look up Karen??
She is a writer and as you see, you might be of help.
I am sure she can use your stories on the mount, and who know, God is big.
Please write me the results for the Circular.
Maybe you could contact Deacon Lionel Roberts once you meet her???
I know that I am asking too much but what are alumni for??
In our case a faith driven army, jajaja
God bless

I am not sending forwards any more, it had its purpose and it’s not really me, but we had a lot of interest, and it kept a lot of people in contact.
Now we have the all member attention, we can get back to, what we can do.
Art for the Kitty fund, all my guys from my time donated, I worked on those projects in getting my guys, from my time to donate.
About the book, an email came around awhile back, and that was it.
We have an account set up is Toronto, which was used for the Kitty Fund,
If a few guys was buying books, it would be good to order a few, or if they want a donation for the book, I would buy two books, and only take one, the other one would be a donation.
If we had an association in Trinidad, I would be glad to mail the money, or whatever, and they mail, the books up for us.
Sorry for brining that up. I will get my copy somehow.
Thanks again, Glen.

Nigel,
Deeply agree with you.
Time to spread the time and workload, maybe Glen will take up the challenge.
Life is filled with talkers, yet so very few effective doers.
As the saying goes "Action speaks louder than words!" Ask for an insertion in the Bulletin for volunteer workers and see how many you may inspire.
On another matter, just contacted Dr Vitalis Gomes, who is located in the St. Catherines area of Ontario.
He retired 6 years ago, and is coasting along there near the border.
He would like to be put on the Bulletin List; his e-mail address, (hope it works) is purported to be vitg@vaxine.com (with an address like that we all may be able to get H1N1 shots fast and free). His phone is 905-892-8767.
He is fine and hearty. Trevor Evelyn has been chatting with him as well.
Viti is in contact with Phillip Pollanais & Peter Gaffney, so these are two more.
You are all doing such a meaningful and fantastic job of moulding Our Group together, I raise my hat and heart to all your efforts and dedication.

Glen,
I'm sorry.
I'm much too busy to undertake yet another project.
And based on the very poor response to the Dalmatic Fund Project which I'm experiencing, I'd rather NOT attempt to get the OB's of MSB interested in this new idea.
Best wishes to you. I hope you can get many others interested.

Dearest Mounties and brothers,
If you would like a bit of "de ja vous" (was never good at French or patua); you would all relish the Historic and interesting book put out as a popular guide for all, by the Abbey.
It gently covers all the 'personal relics' (people, places and happenings) of our yester years; especially for those who walked (or drove) through the "Pax" portals of the Benedictine Tranquillity sitting like a monument above the clouds, in the mountains.
But, being the effervescent urchins of that time, we sadly labelled it "Prison on the Hill"; yet, for me and a great majority of the others of my time, we relished the exposure and balance of all varied activities that were offered to us, and so create better citizens of us all.
Yet, the assorted multitudes of people who sought and ventured up the Mountain (the majority on foot, until they got the mini-vans); received and graciously accepted the blessings and healings, and thus were soothed and moved by the Holy Spirit.
Jesus became a part of their lives (humble or elegant) as they prayed (with and for each other, and self).
They became much better individuals, but most of all coasted "down the hill" with an uplifting and new vision of our God (our light and guidance).
I beg to strongly suggest that each one of you make special efforts to obtain a copy, as I got mine two years ago from Abbot John, when I flew (and I was never an Angel) through Trinidad on a trip to Barbados.
The title is :- THE ABBEY - Mount St Benedict,  by Mark Tierney, O.S.B.
Published in 2005 by Prospect Press
It is an absolutely and rewarding exposure to far more than just The School, but enhances the dedication, foresight, and just plain hard work and determination that the Benedictines did to spread Our Faith throughout this wonderful exciting World.
There are far more good people in the World than bad.
Let us not allow all those deadly sins prevail.
It is why we were placed on this Earth.
Fight (don't kill) just love and care for your brothers in Christ.
He who hesitates is lost.
Don't just think about it, just buy it.
As always,Art

Dear Ladislao,
I have come to Trinidad for our usual holiday and am trying to get so more information about Walter's school days.
He was a lot older than me and was only at the Mount for one year with me, and unfortunately spoke very little to his wife about his school years.
I have found some very old pictures he took of the first Abbots ordination and I will send to you when we have finished looking through his things.
He never got a computer and the e-mail address that I gave to you years ago, was his son's, who left Trinidad many years ago so Walter just fell through the net.
Thanks for your news letters unfortunately very little is said about the days I was at the school 1947 - 1950.
Hope to see more from the older boys.
Keep up the good work.
Best regards with God's blessings,
Peter.

Dear Peter
This is very lamentable news.
For the Circular it is sad to convey the news, we never got a photo or even a line from him, although he was on our list for several years.
I am sorry that he never acknowledged any of our requests and his file remains empty.
I would like to ask Peter Darwent for a short resume, and maybe a photo, for posterity.
No Mount boy should go without a line.
God Bless

I am so sorry to hear of Walter's death, Peter.
I met him once, when my brother, Fr. John Boos W.F., was returning to Trinidad after his first 5 years stint in Burkina Faso as a missionary priest.
My parents lived at Maracas Valley and my mom decided to put on a huge luncheon (1100 guests) to raise funds for his work.
I had to erect a lot of scaffolding for various booths, and Walter very kindly loaned us the scaffolding for the venture.
A very nice man, to be sure.
Please accept my sincere sympathy at the loss of your brother.
But thank God for our faith.
We believe that he has gone to God now, and he has successfully completed his time on earth. May he rest in peace.

Attila et al:
It seems that there were THREE Malaver boys at MSB:
Jose and Carlos apparently left in 1974 (were they twins?) and Franklin (when did he leave? Was he a brother to the others?)
Anyone???

You may be right, but we need someone to verify it.
Also, I need first names for boy #1 (Roquefort, the younger).
He had an older brother who was also in Scouts, with whom I used to get into fistfights all the time.
I got the first name for # 4,... it is CARLOS Malaver.
I am attaching the photo again; to see if anyone could help out with the first names.
Awaiting for a response from someone who remembers.
Anybody?

This correspondence has opened up memories of two previously unmentioned OB's - Lee Hong Sing and McCartney.
My notes to date indicate that there were 3 McCartney Boys who attended school at MSB - Thomas, Raymond and Richard.
So far, only Richard has been listed as a 2nd MSB Scout.
Therefore, I'd say that the odds are, that the boy identified as "McCartney" could very well be Richard McCartney.
Thanks, fellas.

A SECRET FROM THE PAST / THE LEGION OF KNIGHT.‏

MSB / THE ABBEY OLD BOYS 1942 - 1984 / PRIVATE CLUB - MEMBERS ONLY / A TRUE TALE
Out of nowhere, a Knight of Silence (on this Sight/List), a brother of the Tribe, of the Emerald Forest/ Tabor, contacted me, and this is what he had said, Glen, you must never give my name, but you can share the story.
I promised the Knight of silence, my utmost trust, as a brother of the Northern Knights, "THE TABLET'.

Subject: A SECRET FROM THE PAST FROM MOUNT SAINT BENEDICT.
Date: Sat, 6 Sept, 2008 18:36:08 +000
Hi Glen,
The year was around 1944, we had to walk from the dormitory to the breakfast hall, about a 15 min., walk along a dirt road with a rock built retaining wall.
One day returning from the refectory something caught my eye in a hole in the retaining wall.
As if drawn, by some magical power, I immediately stop my fooling around and went straight to the hole, without thinking {for there were many coral snakes in those days} I reached into the hole and pulled out an object without looking at it, for I wanted no one to see it I immediately put it in my pocket and rejoined my friends.
Later on in the solitude of the washroom, I took it from my pocket and began to examine the object.
I realized it was some type of religious tablet, made in the form of a book, and made out of limestone with writings over it.
At that moment I knew it was a scroll of some kind, and that I, had discover some kind of version of something, similar to the 10 commandments.
A certain sense of awe and fear came over me, for some reason, I never told anyone about it then, and to this day only my wife knows, about it and now you.
I left Trinidad in 195X went to Toronto in Canada, travelled for years and then went to Montreal in 196X, when I was in Montreal unpacking my belongings, the tablet reappeared, to my surprise after all these years since then I have never let it out of my sight, then I moved to Miami in 198X, and again unpacking the tablet appeared again, this time, I was going to investigate, what it meant and what were the writings and what did all this mean.
I found it when I was X years old and I was now 45yrs old and this mystery was looked away too long without me doing any thing.
I took the tablet to a priest who had access to university professors, he told me the writing is in Hebrew, to take it to a priest that was a Jew, I did and the Jewish priest translated it for me.
THE TRANSLATION, AS WRITTEN:-
FROM NOW ON BLESS US OH LORD, ALL OF GOD'S SERVANTS.
STANDING IN THE HOUSE OF GOD,
OH GOD RAISE YOUR HANDS TOWARDS JERUSALEM,
BLESS THE LORD, OUR GOD.
SO THE LORD WILL BLESS YOU FROM SINAI,
THE CREATOR OF HEAVEN AND EARTH. .  .  .
I must thank this brother for the permission, to share this true story with all brothers, and for the photos he mailed me, he said the Tablet has always brought him luck.
I hope is sharing this story, we all get a little of that luck,
Amen, and may God Bless you my brother, the keeper of the tablet, a little bit of the mount we hold, The Northern Knights of "White Stones".
------------------------------------------------------------------------.
THE LEGION OF KNIGHTS.
The Legion of Knights, that was raised on "White Stones", under the watchful eye of the Eagles in the sky.
High up in the mountains, still standing tall in the "Dutch Enclave" of Benedictine " Monks".
Surrounded by the sacred Emerald Forest, of Mt. Tabor, a place the Caribs called Tunapuna, in the island of Trinidad.
Today we stand united, in the Power of One.
Together we aspired and together we have achieved, our Spiritual links have been made worldwide, with every brother we could find.
Now the Physical Body of the membership, that resides in the island of the Castle are reuniting, in a Reunion, that is drawing close.
A rebirth of the Legend of a School, The Abbey School, that still lives on in its alumni, a signing of a Declaration, and the forming of a Non-Profit Association.
This is as much as I know, and also would like to know more, after this very important event, for the entire group.
With such an excellent, Guest Speaker as our brother Lucky Anthony, I can see the Order of the day, going well.
Since the Esmeralda sailed into Trinidad, the year is 2008, Pope Benedict XVI sits in the Vatican, many Knights come forward this year to say, I AM PROUD TO BE A MOUNT BOY.
This reunion holds a significant meaning; in establishing legitimacy that we do exists, from a school that is no longer.
The future of this association are in the hands, of many well meaning brothers and great minds, that will be present for this historical event.
I pray for Wisdom and Sound Judgment, that will Enrich and Strengthen our Brotherhood.
As we approach the year 2012, a hundred years since, the 1st.Monk, 1st.Knight, 1st.Old-boy, stepped upon "White Stones", So, we still have many great events, to look forward to.
May God Bless and guide all my brothers who have taken on this important task.
Thanking all my brothers for their time, and all the emails I have received from so many, thank you very much,
Glen..
